How do the improved search capabilities of Microsoft Office Sharepont Services (MOSS) 2007 stack up against those of Google, FAST, and other enterprise grade search engines for knowledge management?
In this roundtable, Paul will share the results of a detailed technology evaluation of Google and MS SharePoint 2007 searches for Unisys. Evaluation criteria included relevancy ranking, ease of use, clarity of results, security, and ease of administration. Unisys eventually selected SharePoint, deploying basic search last April and a people search function in July. Now Paul's team is collecting data to assess progress, optimize the current solution, and further enhance it.

This event is for practitioners only. Space is limited to permit everyone's active participation. If you have limited

This session will be of interest to corporate taxonomists, knowledge managers, search system administrators, Web publishers, information architects, and business unit managers who want to improve their staff's productivity.
DISCUSSION TOPICS
Our members have indicated an interest in discussing
the following questions and topics. Participants are encouraged to ask additional questions during the session.
• What is a "global KM framework" and how does it affect the selection of a search engine?
• Why should a decentralized collaboration and content management system like SharePoint be considered as a KM search solution?
• How do you design a test environment suitable for evaluating enterprise search?
• Which other search engines did you decide to look at and why?
• What kinds of customization is necessary to make SharePoint a good fit for your organization's KM needs?
• Are you looking at any third-party add-ons to Sharepiont? Why? Which ones?
• What resources are required for evaluation in terms of time, money, and staff?
• What kind of support, guidance, and standards will you be giving to SharePoint site owners, editors, and authors?

The format is teleconference. Participants will receive a list of attendees,
a password to access a list of members-only background articles on the
