Suzanne Sheppard, Business Excellence Manager, Unisys.
Based in the UK, Suzanne, is the Knowledge
Architecture and Taxonomy consultant in Unisys' global Knowledge
Network Programme team. She manages the company's corporate taxonomy
and is project manager for the Enterprise Search project. In addition,
she is helping create effective knowledge sharing environments using
Microsoft Sharepoint.
Prior to Unisys, Suzanne was an Executive Consultant
with Atos KPMG Consulting, where she worked with such clients as
Microsoft, BBC, Cable & Wireless, Swiss Re, and BP Chemicals. |
This roundtable discussion, sponsored by the Society
of Knowledge Base Publishers will be held on September 29, 2004. Jean
Graef, Montague Institute founder, will serve as moderator. As guest
speaker, Suzanne Sheppard will describe how she and her team at Unisys
are working with business units and departments to increase information
productivity through taxonomies, search, and Sharepoint team sites and
communities.
As an added bonus Suzanne and Jean will lead a discussion
of differences between U.S. and U.K. information professionals and the
implications for creating global knowledge systems.
DISCUSSION TOPICS
The following is a list of suggested discussion
topics. Additional topics can be suggested by the participants:

staff and teams in vocabulary development
-- Ideas for using a taxonomy to enhance work flow
and team productivity

presenting it to directors and other senior managers

engine programs
-- How to create effective knowledge communities
using Microsoft Sharepoint
-- What are the differences between the information
services function in the U.K. and the U.S. and what does this mean for
global information strategy?
-- What does a "Knowledge Architect" do
and how do you get to be one?
-- Where are challenges and opportunities for information
professionals in the next 2 - 5 years? What are the pros and cons of
locating information research and taxonomy development under the IT
umbrella?
FACE-TO-FACE FORMAT
The face-to-face session will be held in
Enfield, Connecticut (nearest airport is Hartford/Springfield). The session
will begin at 9:00 am and end at 4:00 pm EDT.
TELECONFERENCE FORMAT
Participants will receive a phone number to access the audio portion of
the roundtable and will be able to ask questions throughout the day. For
the video portion, participants can download roundtable Powerpoint presentations
from the Montague Institute Web site.
