The Montague Institute held a one-day roundtable in
Manhattan on February 16, 1999, to provide a forum in which participants
could share information on this topic. This was not a training session,
but an idea exchange for experienced practitioners. The session was hosted
by Charlie Goulding, Director of Taxation for Dover Corporation. Charlie
attended our Dallas roundtable and is currently developing an intranet
database to help engineers locate external technology available for licensing.
Discussion questions:
Where is the biggest need? (customer service? R&D? sales?)
What are most people trying to do? (save time? align know-how with
business need?)
Who's responsible for measurable progress? (CKO? KM team? line manager?)
What metrics are used to measure progress?
Are incentives being used? How do they work?
Is technology being used to help find experts and/or manage intellectual
property?
Are new support staff roles required to support experts? If so, what
are they?
What works in leveraging EXTERNAL experts (e.g. vendors, contractors)?
Is anyone using Communities of Practice? If so, how did they get
started? How well do they work?
