SharePoint Server 2010, scheduled for release sometime in the first half of the year, has some significant changes for search and metadata. New search features include Boolean operators (and, or, not) in search queries, wild card searching, suggestions when typing queries, related searches and refinement/filter panels in results, "self search" and phonetic matching in People search, and "inferred metadata" in relevance ranking. New metadata features include tagging and tag clouds and a "managed metadata service" with topic hierarchies.
In this session, we'll see how each of these features work, discuss benefits for users, and look at the implications for information policy and governance.
