International statistics

Posted to BUSLIB-L on 08/22/2005 by Cynthia Cooper, DFW Airport

State level data for China is available at China Data: http://chinadatacenter.org/newcdc/onlinedata.htm (Diane Campbell)

You might try Immigration Statistics Yearbook (http://uscis.gov/graphics/shared/statistics/yearbook/index.htm) or contact the INS directly. I would think that this information would be something that is captured but not published necessarily.

It would be surprising if you found a commercial service that provides non-US economic data at the state level for a number of different countries. EIU does have a product called CityData but it appears to supply only price data. If you have access to Moody's or S&P, you might try searching the sovereign reports and limiting the search to specific states/municipalities within a country but I don't know if the data are provided consistently for various countries.

Unfortunately, you'll probably have to identify the national statistics organization for each country (hopefully some information will be in English) and then go through the tortuous process of trying to find the data on their individual Web sites. A great Web site to check for national statistics sites is University of Michigan's Statistical Resources on the Web: http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/stats.html (Karen McGruder)

Population projections by Mexican states and cities can be found at CONAPO (Consejo Nacional de Población) http://www.conapo.gob.mx/ (Linda Blowers)

CEIC from Securities.com will definitely have details by prefecture for China. There is a book something like "China Annual Statistics" which I think also has GDP by prefecture, though I may be mistaken on this one. It does have a fair amount of info on the provincial level.

For other countries, Securities.com may have some. Also check with Global Insight. (Eric Obershaw)

Perhaps the IMF or the World Bank would have something for you on the GDP of the countries you mentioned. http://www.imf.org/external/country/IND/index.htm (Kara Masciangelo)
