Where to find listings of experts

Original inquiry and summary posted by Shiela Loggins, Ciba Specialty Chemical Corp., on April 24, 2003.

I am interested in locating experts in a particular technical field. Can any of you recommend good resources for this?

I am aware of Teltech and Directory of Graduate Research by CA. But I recall a database being assembled a number of years back by some people at John Hopkins. At that time it covered mostly medical and life science experts but they planned to add government and university labs dealing in material sciences. I believe this went to a web format and changed names but I cannot recall the new name. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

NRC expertise database - Provides web access to the expertise available at NRC for colleagues and potential customers. NRC employees can add their expertise to the database.

Prosavvy - The E-Source for professional services

Canadian Engineering Network

COS Expertise - Community of Science-Primarily from Universities and Government Labs. Allows for free text searching.

CANADA Consulting Engineers - Click on the Member firms links at the top

ASTM Directory of Scientific and Technical Consultants and Expert Witnesses

Association of International Consultants

ISI site - The searching capability on this site is limited to a couple of key fields. There appears to be no free text searching which would make the system more useful. But if you have an author or institution in mind already, this could be a good place to look for an expert.

Fuld and Company-Competitive Intelligence Group - This is actually an additional list of experts in various areas.

Nine Sigma - Innovation oriented

Teltech is now part of Sopheon. One can run the search for free but there are charges for directly linking to the actual expert.

*Check with your local university or college to see if their public relations department has a list of experts willing to talk to the press about various subjects. The Fuld experts pages lists many of these university sites.
