Reverse and international phone directories

Original query posted by Liebman, Bruce on June 15, 1998.

Does anyone know if there exists on the web a site where one can enter a phone number and get a name? I'd be very (happily) surprised if one exists, either in pay or free form.

Your question on reverse phone directories, last time I looked, Infospace had a reverse lookup function. Infospace Reverse Lookup

Wendy L. Stotts, Manager, Information Center, Carlson Companies, Inc.

There are multiple responses already, but the one I like is 555-1212.

I usually use LookUpUSA.com which is produced by ABI. It's not *all* phone numbers - it usually won't help with a direct-dial number to a person within a company - but it's useful for listed residential numbers.

If my comments on www.anywho.com would be helpful to your readers please print them. I was remiss in not mentioning that "anywho" has both a direct and a reverse directory in addition to two neat links. First, you can verify the current resident by clicking on to an "update" link, and if you want to know where the person is located you can hookup with a locator link that prints a map of the street in various perspectives. You can either zoom in on the neighborhood itself or you can expand the map to show you the general area. It's a great tool in my opinion.

International phone directories

Thanks to everyone who sent me international phone directory info. There were some really good sites- I especially like "International Directories" at http://www.infobel.be/inter/world.asp and "Telephone Directories on the Web" at http://www.teldir.com/. The second one is annotated with useful information. The first site seems to be more comprehensive- listing a lot of fax and business directories that aren't listed on other sites... Thanks again for the great tips!
