Regional dictionaries

Question:
I have a request for a resource that will refer the user to a regional specific term. For example, if we wanted to know what term is used in England for the word "trunk," it would tell us to use the term "boot." Or, if we use the term "hoagie" in the NW United States, the term most commonly used in the NE is "grinder." Etc.

Responses:
The most suggested source is the Dictionary of American Regional English!

Also suggested were:

British English for American Readers

Dictionary of Contemporary American English Contrasted with British English

The Harvard Dialect Survey (This distracted me for at least half an hour - fascinating stuff!)

The American British - British American Dictionary

The Americans Guide to Speaking British

Lonely Planet British Phrasebook

Divided by a Common Language.

The Dictionary of American Regionalisms (Facts on File)
