Thanks to all who responded to my request for a directory of corporate counsel for biotech/pharmaceutical companies.  Below is a summary of the recommended resources.  I found the Martindale-Hubble web based directory to be the easiest and least expensive solution - but have not really tested it for coverage of biotech companies.  Pharmacontacts does not consistently include corporate counsel in their directory entries.

Aspen Publishing (201-894-8484) publishes both a hard copy and a CD-ROM version of the Directory of Corporate Counsel.  The book is about $500.00.  The directory covers a variety of company types.

The Biotechnology Directory 1999 published by Groves Dictionaries Inc has this kind of information.  The ISBN number is 1-56159-232-3.  I just got the book today.

Have you contacted the Institute for Biotechnology Information located in Research Triangle Park, NC, phone 919-544-5111, www.biotechinfo.com This organization publishes many items related to biotechnology including directories. Also, there is the Pharmacontacts database on Dialog which includes key personnel in pharmaceutical and chemical companies.

If you know the name of the company you can easily find counsel by going to Martindale Hubbell law directory and selecting Corporate category. http://www.martindale.com

The American Corporate Counsel Association used to put out a book of Corporate Counsel for corporations. The directory listed the specialty of each staff attorney. You might try:

Corporate Counsel Magazine

The annual report/10-K lists the outside counsel for each corporation, but that usually isn't the patent firm.

The Westlaw directory URL for name searches is <http://www.wld.com/direct/welcome.asp?form=names>.   The second option on the page is for a "firm" name (you can try the company name here).

You might try your main public library--business dept., they should have the print version of the Directory of Corporate Counsel if you don't have WESTLAW access.
