Advertising clipping services

Original query posted by Mollie Brumbaugh, Household Finance, on October 19, 1998.

Where can I find clipping service advertisements?

National System offers a national ad clipping service.

Ad Facts, at www.adfacts.com, offers customized clipping and analysis.

If you mean ads that have appeared in magazines, these are referred to as tearsheets.   Here are some companies that I have talked to within the past couple of years that have this service.  I believe they all also monitor and record TV and radio ads.   My recollection is that their print collections are typically only a couple of years deep and generally focus on consumer publications, but some have industry specialties.

  • Advertising Information Service  212-683-9070
  • LTS Productions 516-265-0404
  • Burrelle's 800-631-1160
  • VMS Video Monitoring Services   312-649-1131  (probably no print)
  • PERQ  800-243-2702

Duke University has the largest collection of advertisements in the US in their special collections dept. In the title 'Subject Collections', other libraries are listed who have these collections.

For firms that monitor and tract TV advertizing try Video Monitoring Service of America (formerly Radio & TV Reports) in New York at 212 736-2010.
