Most organizations don't just "create a taxonomy."
Instead, they begin a continual process that can affect all aspects of
the business. This is the story of how our taxonomy evolved through five
stages.
With this issue, the Montague Institute Review
contents is available as a monthly news feed. Here's a primer on RSS (the
supporting technology) and our reasons for starting the service.

Integrating taxonomies
October 7/8, 2003 (Enfield, CT) January 12/13, 2004 (Washington, DC)
This 2-day workshop is designed to help you develop
a concrete strategy for integrating multiple taxonomies - both internal
and external. By "integration" we mean bridging the gaps between
disciplines and cultures as well as making taxonomies available to navigation
tools, incorporating them into business applications, and including them
in editorial work flow. Jean Graef will teach the Connecticut session;
Denise Bedford will teach the Washington session.
Metadata architecture roundtable November 10, 2003
(Enfield, CT)
This is an opportunity to meet and swap ideas with
other Society members. Denise Bedford will be on hand to report on her
latest work with concept extraction tools, managing collaborative digital
reference material, and enterprise metadata repositories. The agenda will
focus on what's new, what's happening, and what opportunities we see on
the horizon.
Creating, managing, and using metadata November 11/12,

This 2-day workshop is designed to help you understand,
create, and use metadata in a variety of applications. Designed for an
interdisciplinary audience, the content includes concepts from publishing,
library science, and computer science. Participants can create a prototype
metadata repository using their own data in the Web-based Lab and are
encouraged to bring their own examples for instructor feedback. Jean Graef
will teach the Connecticut session; Denise Bedford will teach the Washington
session.
