Content management software: What it does, where it's going

This article began with an inquiry from a Society member who wanted to talk to people with experience using the Vignette content management system. It gives an overview of content management software, identifies the current major players, and looks at what may be on the horizon for the near future. 

Recent articles on information management indicate that we may be on the verge of a new era in content management software. Vignette and other "niche" players that cater to specific publishing and e-commerce applications are being challenged by new software from Microsoft and Oracle.

We interviewed several Society members whose companies are using or planning to use Vignette and similar systems.
