Collaborative taxonomies

Summary of a recent teleconference among Society members to explore the possibility of jointly developing taxonomies, training materials, executive briefings, and other tools and services for organizing knowledge within their companies. 

On January 12, representatives from five companies held a teleconference to explore the idea of collaborating on taxonomy-related issues. Possible areas of collaboration were suggested in a background document, shared with participants prior to the conference:

• Research -- software reviews, case studies

• Clearinghouse for existing and member-developed taxonomies

• Coordination with other classification efforts

• Educational programs

• Taxonomy-related services (e.g. conversion, editing)
