On the front lines in knowledge base publishing

May, 2000

"Knowledge stewards" work on the front lines to help teams land a client, implement a project, develop a product, or solve a problem. Their work is not unique, but their work environment has five distinguishing characteristics -- a team focus, a variety of tasks, two-way information flows, closeness to the customer, and use of "lowest-common-denominator" technology. This article describes the work of twelve stewards from Accenture, MITRE Corporation, Intel, Arthur D. Little, marchFIRST, and Compaq. Includes organization drawing and comparison chart.
