SharePoint Conference 2008, held in Seattle, Washington, USA From March 3rd – 6th, 2008, Microsoft ran the first world-wide SharePoint Conference open to the public. Over 3,800 people attended the conference with a waiting list of over 500. Sponsor slots sold out within 24 hours of the conference being announced! SharePoint is a hot topic for many organisations. With SharePoint Server 2007 now over 12 months old, and least 18 months to go before we are likely to see the next version released, this conference was an opportunity to review lessons learned and see how SharePoint is being used in a variety of scenarios.
The big takeaway? As the amount of available information continues to grow, we need richer user interfaces to improve how people find, share and use information. Search technologies alone will not be enough. If you are an information architect or manager, consider how and when you would work with developers and designers to improve the way information is accessed.
